Every 4th of July we go to Grand Haven and Spring Lake with our best friends to enjoy fun in the sun and the beautiful Lake Michigan. (God's reward for us Michiganders who survive the brutal winters).
Joe, Nick and Kristen picked me up from work Saturday evening so we could all head to Jon and Tara's for a good night's rest. Sunday we drove out to Grand Haven but the traffic was killer so we went straight to Mom and Dad's on Spring Lake. We played on the beach and the boys tossed around the football, jumping off the dock into the lake. There were some serious ladder golf competitions, where Kristen and I took the gold home over Nick and Joey. (Pretty sure that would never happen if we played real golf, so we will take what we can get).
Mom made homemade potato salad, rolls, fresh fruit, salad, and Dad grilled up some jumbo chicken breasts and hot dogs for us. We enjoyed lunch under the shade of the beautiful willow tree. Kyla had a good nap and the girls soaked up the sun after enjoying Mom and Dad's delicious lunch they prepared for us. I am so thankful for them and their hospitality to all our friends.
Later we all showered up and got ready for dinner and the fireworks. We went to our Old Boys' for dinner, our annual 4th of July favorite! After dinner on the deck/water, we headed to the dock to watch Grand Haven's firework show. Kyla slept through the entire display and never made a peep!
Monday we went to Oval Beach in Holland and later strolled around Saugatuck, shopping the little art and clothing boutiques. Saugatuck is such a cute beach town! We stayed for supper and Kilwins, to avoid midday traffic, then drove back to Chicago after a great holiday weekend!
