Traffic was clear and we arrived in Boston right at check-in time. We dropped our luggage off then hit the ground running for the famous Freedom Trail. It was very interesting and entertaining. My favorite points of interest included: Granary Burying Grounds (Ben Franklin, Sam Adams, and Mother Goose, among others, all reside there); Old North Church (Paul Revere's strategic "one if by land, two if by sea" location and also where Aimee and Rand got engaged); Old South Meeting House (Boston Tea Party); and the USS Constitution (1812- the oldest commissioned war ship known as Old Iron Sides. This made my list not because I really enjoyed seeing it but because it was the longest walk EVER to get to it. I told Joey, "this better be good.")
After the Freedom Trail we headed to dinner at the Barking Crab, recommended to us by one of my employees who lived in Boston for three years. Barking Crab gets right down to business with huge bowls of crab legs, lobster rolls, and the best clam chowder in Boston. The generous mound of peel and eat shrimp was the best I've ever had!
Our second day in Boston was a bit less "touristy." We walked through Boston Commons and watched kids play in the Frog Pond, Boston's watering hole, in the park. We had lunch at Upper Crust, a very un-Chicago style pizza joint. My father-in-law would have loved the hand tossed, thin crust pizza...a favorite among Bostonians! But, my favorite part of our day was strolling Beacon Hill and Charles Street. The streets in Beacon Hill are quaint and narrow- picturesque with lots of cute shops and restaurants.
Later we hit up Dunkin Donuts for iced coffee and took to the open road towards Maine.
Bye bye Boston, you were great!
