This night was filled with great hospitality and encouragement for folks facing many challenges and disappointments in their daily lives. I am honored to be a part of Breaking Bread and hope to continue to volunteer on Wednesday nights.

Breaking Bread
Yesterday, I had the privilege to volunteer with Breaking Bread, a ministry that takes place every Wednesday night for the homeless and hungry in Chicago. We served a home-cooked meal in a restaurant-style dining atmosphere. The guests were served each course at their table, on real plates and silverware. Also, part of the dining area is sectioned off for a Bible study if guests desired to read with somebody or needed prayer. The great thing about Breaking Bread is that they strive to meet other physical needs, as well as spiritual and emotions needs. In addition to providing food, we set up tables and tables of donated clothes so the people could take what they needed. There was also counseling services and a nurse practitioner on site to provide basic medical attention and HIV tests.

Prayer Request
I would like to ask everyone to say a prayer for my mom as she just underwent her second chemotherapy treatment. The first one left her terribly sick and in a lot of pain. This week the chemo treatment will lower her white blood cells (the good guys that fight off bacteria and illness) to almost zero. Please pray she does not get sick and that the treatment will work. She has to undergo three rounds of chemo before the doctor will even be able to tell if it is working and killing the cancer. She is through two rounds now so hopefully it is working or else she is going through this for nothing. Thank you for your prayers!

Little Miracles
Recently I lost my work key. I ripped our condo apart searching high and low for the dang thing. I finally concluded I must have lost it at the Clark and Division El Stop. As anyone who has ever taken the subway knows, it's a dirty and chaotic place where you definitely don't want to be on your hands and knees looking for a little key. If you're lucky somebody may turn in your lost merchandise to the CTA lost and found. Both lost and found locations are super inconvenient and far away from the heart of the city where we live. I realized it was most likely gone forever. After talking to Mom and my husband I decided to stop worrying and keep a positive attitude. Well, this morning I decided to ask the lady at the ticket counter if she found a single key. She held up her index finger to me and asked me to wait a minute. She proceeded to turn around and reach into her crowded black backpack to pull out my little key! I almost cried I was so happy. I gave Nita a big hug and went on my way to work! To me this was a little miracle.
