Chicagoans walk A LOT and we walk all over the city, passing numerous people to and from our destinations each day. After Rachel first moved to Chicago, she had a brilliant idea to start a blog to document individual reactions after the simple act of smiling at strangers in passing. You may be asking yourself, "Why would she do that?" Well if you are a Chicagoan, you know that we are not exactly known for being a friendly city. Forget about getting a "Hi" or even a closed-lip smile; people don't even make eye contact in the elevator or when they walk right past you on the sidewalk. It's really strange! But the sad thing is, after a while you get used to casting your vision downward and looking stoic when you pass another person. It's really uncomfortable and frankly not normal.
So, the three of us are turning those frowns upside down. We are on a mission to change Chicago (fist shaking in the air) by starting the smile revolution! We are going to make Chicago the most friendly city in America by simply smiling at strangers as we pass by! And I'm certain it will make many people's day and spread like wildfire! I hope you will join us and maybe even consider starting the smile revolution in your city!
